Town Forest Rules and Regulations
Amended 04 February 2026
- Forest is open from dawn to dusk for passive recreation.
- No motorized vehicles, including cars, trucks, dirt bikes, ATVs and snowmobiles, or machinery is allowed except as needed for emergency response or trail maintenance. Electric bikes are not permitted.
- Hunting and trapping are prohibited.
- No fires except for cooking and with the written permission of the Fire Chief, or their designee.
- No alcohol, recreational drugs, or smoking.
- No dumping of rubbish, litter, or yard waste.
- Overnight camping is allowed only with written permission of the Town Forest Committee, and the Police Chief or their designee.
- If you carry it in you must carry it out.
- All dogs must be leashed at all times, except service animals for persons with disabilities, which may be unleashed if required to perform their duties.*
- Dog waste must be carried out for appropriate disposal.
- Feeding wildlife is prohibited. Do not approach or intentionally disturb wildlife.
- No person shall cut, remove, or harm any trees (dead or living), shrubs, plants, soil, or flowers except as required for regular trail maintenance or invasive species removal.
- No new trails shall be cut or marked without the written permission of the Conservation Commission.
- Use of trail cameras is not permitted without prior written authorization of the Town Forest Committee or the Conservation Committee.
- Firearms and archery equipment are prohibited.
- Reminder - careless use of matches and smoking material can cause forest fires.
- Police take notice.
* Service animals are permitted in accordance with applicable provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
